Green-Wood is Brooklyn's great Victorian cemetery, and after closing its gothic gates, hilltop mausoleums and monuments take on a very different mood. This tour ends in the Catacombs, a space that is normally locked to the public. If you want an October night that is atmospheric without being a haunted-house gimmick, this is the one to book.
What to expect
Expect a guided walk over hilly, grassy and uneven paths in the dark, with stops for stories about Green-Wood's history, legends and secrets. There is nowhere to sit along the way, and the finale is a walk into the Catacombs.
