Instead of driving upstate for leaves, this three-and-a-half-hour sail carries you up the Hudson on the 80-foot Schooner Adirondack, past the Upper West Side, under the George Washington Bridge and beside the Little Red Lighthouse to the 400-foot Palisades cliffs. The crew cuts the engines and sails as much as the wind allows, and there is house-made hot cocoa aboard. If you want a slow, photogenic fall afternoon on the water, book this one.
What to expect
You board at Pier 62 and head north with the captain adding light narration. The deck is open-air, so you will be in the wind for most of the trip, with time to picnic and photograph the cliffs.
