Keisha Scarville, born to Guyanese parents in New York, covers the museum's front steps with black-and-white images layered over patterns from her late mother's clothing, some from her Mama's Clothes series. The title nods to Guyana's dark, mineral-rich waters believed to heal. It is an outdoor, reflective spot right on Eastern Parkway, and this is its closing weekend.
What to expect
Large photographs installed across the museum's plaza and front stoop that reward stepping back for the overall pattern and moving close for the details. A related work also appears as a 50-by-50-foot mural on UOVO's Brooklyn facility in Bushwick.
