Mid-September is peak monarch migration along the coast, and Marine Park's salt marsh is a stopover for the orange-and-black travelers. Here you get to help band them, adding real data to a national study of a species in decline. If you have curious kids, it's a memorable, hands-on free hour outdoors in southern Brooklyn.
What to expect
A short introduction from naturalists, then time in the meadows around the nature center watching for monarchs and helping with tagging. Sightings depend on the weather and the migration.
