Green-Wood was a tourist attraction in the 1800s before Central Park existed, and it still rewards a guide: baseball pioneers, composers and Civil War casualties rest among Egyptian pyramids and baseball-themed headstones. The route climbs Battle Hill, Brooklyn's highest natural point and a Revolutionary War site with harbor views. If early fall feels like cemetery-walk season, this is the best version of it.
What to expect
The group meets at the Prospect Park West entrance and walks about a mile and a half to the main Fifth Avenue gate, where monk parakeets nest in the Gothic spires. Expect hills, storytelling stops at notable graves and skyline views from the top of Battle Hill.
