Haegue Yang has built the first commission to run through both levels of Dia Beacon: dark draped venetian blinds upstairs, and metal louvers lined up with the columns in the basement galleries. The work maps the building's compass directions onto East Asian color traditions and weaves in Isang Yun's 1968 score Images. If you were planning a fall Hudson Valley day, this opening weekend is the reason to go now.
What to expect
You move between the light-filled first floor and the darker lower level, where Yang's installations answer each other across the building and sit among Dia's Minimalist collection. A performance of Isang Yun's Images is also scheduled at Dia Beacon on the opening day.
